Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 18, 2026

DerDieDas (“the App”) is a dictionary and learning tool that helps you find the correct German article (der, die, das) for nouns and shows example sentences with their inflected forms. This policy explains what data the App does and does not collect.

Data Collection

The App does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the developer or to any third-party server owned by the developer.

  • No accounts. The App has no registration, sign-in, or account system.
  • No analytics. The App contains no analytics SDKs or crash-reporting tools that report to the developer.
  • No advertising. The App contains no ads and no ad-tracking SDKs.
  • No in-app purchases.
  • No third-party data processing. The App sends nothing to any server operated by the developer. The only outbound requests the App makes are the ones you trigger yourself, described under “Pronunciation Audio and External Links” below.

Data Stored on Your Device

The App stores a small amount of information locally on your device only:

  • Preferences (for example, appearance settings and which widgets are enabled) are stored in UserDefaults.
  • A first-installation record is stored in the iOS Keychain.

This information never leaves your device and is removed when you delete the App.

AI-Generated Example Sentences

The App can generate example sentences using the artificial intelligence features built into iOS:

  • On-device language models process your request entirely on your device.
  • Private Cloud Compute may be used when on-device processing is unavailable. When this happens, your request is handled by Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure under Apple’s privacy guarantees and is not accessible to the developer.

The developer does not receive your prompts, the nouns you look up, or the generated example sentences.

Pronunciation Audio and External Links

Most full dictionary entries include a spoken pronunciation clip. These clips are not bundled with the App. When you tap play, the App requests the audio file directly from Wikimedia Commons (upload.wikimedia.org).

  • That request reveals your device’s IP address and the name of the audio file — which corresponds to the noun you are viewing — to the Wikimedia Foundation, and is covered by their privacy policy rather than this one.
  • No such request is made unless you tap play. Looking a noun up, reading its article, its cases, its definitions and its written IPA transcription is entirely offline.
  • The Meanings panel can open the matching entry on de.wiktionary.org in your browser. That is an ordinary link, followed only when you tap it.

The developer receives nothing in either case.

Data Security

Because the App does not collect data, there is no data stored by the developer to protect, and no data is at risk in the event of a security breach on the developer’s side.

Children’s Privacy

The App does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
